Nutrition is our basic form of self-care. From the moment we are born, we learn to control our environment through our feeding habits and food choices. When we learn to take exquisite care of ourselves, every aspect of our life can change. One of the joys of my job is witnessing how changes in nutrition and lifestyle positively affect both our physical health and our relationships .
I take time to listen and understand your unique circumstances. This way we can ensure that your nutrition care plan is effective and personalized. Our conversation will be relaxed and free from pressure or judgment. Much of what we will do together is to strategize about how to implement changes.
Face-to-face communication is the standard of care. It protects confidentiality, and allows for greater understanding and a more meaningful partnership. This is when the best results happen.
Consultations are at least an hour in length. This ensures enough time to discuss: struggles, successes and concerns, as well as address current and future goals and the strategies to achieve them.
My role is to educate you about nutrition, and also to be a nutrition therapist. Many approaches to nutrition focus only on meal plans. While a meal plan can be a central and critical component, I will also spend time getting to know you, your lifestyle, and your personal and emotional needs. This ensures that the strategies to implement changes become our primary focus.
I serve as a coach to help you identify and incorporate food and lifestyle choices that fit into your existing life. I believe in a slow, kind evolution – a process that helps you develop gradual and permanent change.
The fact you’re reading this means you have an interest in improving your health. I believe the best outcomes occur when we both take responsibility for your progress – when we work together as a team. I view my role as a catalyst, helping you to be comfortable taking ownership of making changes, and also celebrating your successes.
Not only will we create a nutrition plan that best suits your unique needs, but we will also consider the big picture. My approach is to help create a patient-centered plan that encompasses your lifestyle, including relationships with family, friends and colleagues.
This holistic approach also extends to coordinating with your wider care services. I reach out to healthcare teams, therapists, teachers and schools to ensure a collaborative approach to help us achieve your goals.
Nutrition therapy is a process that involves addressing the underlying issues regarding your health, and the behaviors related to your diet and lifestyle choices.
The process also involves learning about the science of nutrition, so that new ways of thinking and behaving lead to sustainable and meaningful change. Knowledge is powerful and can help diffuse the tension of difficult emotions that may accompany making changes.
The outcomes and process will differ from case to case. Some potential successful outcomes are:
